POMPANO BEACH, FL - Firefighters in Florida rescued a puppy that had fallen into a drain Thursday.
“Lucy” was not on her leash when her owner turned away for a split second and the next thing she knew the dog was gone and all she could hear was cries for help.
When firefighters got on scene, they heard cries from the 12-week-old Havanese puppy coming out of a pipe about eight inches in diameter and six feet deep.
First they dug around the pipe to reach her and as the owner anxiously waited, officials worried they would need to use a backhoe to get the puppy out.
A firefighter was able to lasso the puppy with a leash around her body and pull her up through the pipe.
Once she was back in her owner’s arms, Lucy was given oxygen from a child face mask but did not show any obvious signs of physical injury.
