A jury has acquitted a former Phoenix police officer accused of sexually assaulting a woman in his custody last year.

Maricopa County Superior Court officials say jurors Thursday found Timothy Morris not guilty of two counts of sexual assault and one count of kidnapping.

The 40-year-old Morris was found guilty on a misdemeanor count of false reporting. He was sentenced to six months in jail, but credited for six months already served.

Morris was arrested last June after a 23-year-old woman told police she was the victim of sexual misconduct by one of their officers while she was handcuffed.

Morris had retrieved the woman from Scottsdale police and was transferring her to a Maricopa County jail.

He resigned from the police department, where he had been an officer since 2008.
