One couple's quizzical generosity after an unpleasant dining experience is creating quite a buzz on social media.

Makenzie and Steven Schultz left a waiter a $100 tip for a $66 bill, despite waiting more than an hour between putting in their order and getting served.

"Our service tonight sucked. Took 20 minutes to get water, 40 minutes for an appetizer and over an hour for our entrée," Makenzie Schultz posted on her Facebook page.

Although the service was horrible, the couple said they looked around and saw that they weren't the only ones.

"At one point, we counted (our waiter) had 12 tables plus the bar; more than any one person could handle!" she wrote in the post.

Makenzie said she knew the situation was stressful because she had once worked as a waitress.

"I don't miss (waitressing) at all and I never loved that job. I did it for the tips. Steven and I agreed it would feel good to make this guy's night when he would probably be getting minimal to no tips due to slow service," she posted.

And with that, the couple left a hefty tip and advised others to show compassion before judging.

"Always remember where you came from," Makenzie Schultz said.
